2006 Annual Report
ELIAS PARASKEVAS 2006 HIGHLIGHTS
2006 has been an outstanding year for Elias Paraskevas. We have
continued to represent primarily international clients in
sophisticated, innovative, high value added transactions. Our work
this year has included many challenging transactions requiring
fresh, creative approaches in the areas of mergers and acquisitions,
private equity, bond subscriptions, finance arrangements, general
corporate and finance work, and complex litigation. Some of our
2006 highlights include:
BANKING AND FINANCE
-
Representing a multinational
household name in a potential €300m investment in Greece;
-
Representing two of the
world’s largest international defence contractors on a number of
issues related to public procurement; and
-
Advising a leading
international food company with regard to a corruption
investigation.
CORPORATE
-
Acting on behalf of a leading private equity house as to its first
investment in Greece;
-
Acting as local counsel to the world’s largest interbank broker in
its merger with a company that provides services in the spot foreign
exchange trading community;
-
Acting as local counsel for one of the world’s largest hotel groups,
with respect to its internal reorganization, share sale and purchase
agreement, shareholder’s agreement, taxation issues, negotiation of
a major hotel management contract, and participation in a tender for
another hotel management contract;

Representing a multinational household name in a potential € 300m
investment in Greece;
-
Representing two of the world’s largest international defence
contractors on a number of issues related to public procurement; and
-
Advising a leading international food company with regard to a
corruption investigation.
LITIGATION
-
Acting for an American university formerly operating in Greece, in
litigation involving over seventy plaintiffs and seven different
actions connected with its decision to cease its academic operations
in Greece, including complex and ground breaking employment law
issues of first impression in the Greek courts;

Defending a client who is a global leader in the design,
implementation, and management of electronic systems with respect to
a multimillion euro claim brought against it in the Greek court
system; and
-
Acting in complicated litigation involving alleged corporate
corruption and fraud in the shipping industry.

REAL
ESTATE
-
Representing several international investors with respect to
potential investments and property acquisitions in Greece, including
most recently advising a trust company as to a purchase of a
sizeable parcel of property on a Greek island; and
-
Advising a number of clients outside Greece as to their property
holdings within Greece and all applicable legislation pertaining to
the use, disposal, and taxation of these investments and holdings.
We are
pleased that our managing partner, Dimitris Paraskevas, has again been
rated one of the two top merger and acquisition attorneys in Greece by
the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers (2006) and one of the
five best M&A lawyers by the Legal Media Group Guide IFLR 2006.
The
international legal directory Chambers Global consistently ranks us as
one of the eight leading law firms in Greece for corporate and
commercial work, and designates Dimitris Paraskevas as one of the
leading practitioners in corporate and commercial law in Greece. The
Legal 500 ranked us again first in the area of Privatisations and
Projects. And finally, we are pleased that a floor in the new academic
building of the London School of Economics will be named after the
firm’s founder, Elias Paraskevas.
