LSE and the
Hellenic LSE Alumni Association Gala event 2006
in celebration
of the Elias Paraskevas floor.
On October 12 2006,
the firm helped sponsor a London School of Economics (LSE) and LSE
Hellenic Alumni Association Gala Event at the Zappeion in Athens,
and this event was a smashing success with over 1200 people in
attendance. The event was organised to celebrate the new Academic
Building of LSE and the Elias Paraskevas floor in this building,
which will be the top floor and is named in honour of the late Elias
Paraskevas, founder of the firm and father of our Managing Partner
Dimitris Paraskevas. Dimitris Paraskevas is also an LSE alumnus and
Chairman of the Hellenic LSE Alumni Association.
The guests enjoyed hearing opening remarks from the Minister of
Foreign Affairs Dora Bakogianni, as well as the President of the
Athens Bar Association Mr. Dimitris Paxinos. Guests further enjoyed
a panel discussion/debate on the provocative topic "Can Europe
provide a multilateral alternative to the American definition of
global order." Speakers and panelists included Professor Conor
Gearty, Rausing Director of the Centre for the Study of Human
Rights, LSE; Professor Loukas Tsoukalis, Jean Monnet Professor of
European Organization at LSE, President of the Hellenic Foundation
for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and Special Advisor to the
President of the European Commission; Lord William Wallace,
Professor Emeritus of International Relations, LSE; and the
Honorable Thomas M. Countryman, Deputy Chief of Mission of the
United States Embassy in Greece.
As Professor Sarah Worthington, Deputy Director and Professor of
Law, (LSE) stated “the New Academic Building is the most significant
strategic enhancement of the LSE estate to occur in the last 75
years. We now have an unrivalled opportunity to provide
contemporary, active, flexible teaching space for our students,
staff and executive partners. The Building is also a wonderful
opportunity for the Law Department. It offers us the chance to
create a far more cohesive department in a state-of-the-art
setting.”
